Once, there was a little girl who would retreat to the solitude of her dimly lit room whenever she felt diminished or overlooked. In the quiet darkness, she'd surround herself with imagined figures - loving, caring individuals who saw her as beautiful, intelligent, and flawless. She'd bolster her spirits, reassuring herself with hopeful promises about a brighter future. "One day," she'd whisper to her heart, "I'll be amazing, and people will look upon me in awe.!

I yearn to believe that deep inside, I'm still that eight-year-old girl, untouched by judgments and untainted in how she sees the world. I wish to shelter and nurture her, that pure-hearted child who innocently believed she was surrounded by heroes rather than the critics!

I am Dana Obeid, a mother to three wonderful sons and the partner to an amazing husband. And in a twist of self-love, I've just adopted the eight-year-old me.
